Given the horrendous stories of the pandemic from Italy which at one point was the highest number of deaths before being overtaken by other Countries including the USA there is a current push to kickstart the Country.
So the Italian Government has hurriedly approved travel out and into Italy from the European Union starting June 3rd 2020. This despite the Country recording more than 31,600 deaths and over 230,000 people being infected. The rate of new cases has been dropping, and economic pressures have kicked in making reopening a necessity if the economy is to continue.
Many small businesses are struggling and it is estimated that the EU territory will witness large scale closures of small businesses and other commercial enterprises. Italy is no exception and perhaps the recession that will follow in the Country will be unprecedented in their history.
Many Italians already have a sour taste in their mouths regarding the lack of empathy and financial support from the EU when it was needed the most during the height of the pandemic. The EU was slow to react and many Italians believe that they would be better off leaving the EU.
The Italian economy has suffered considerably from the pandemic and tourism looks to be particularly effected. The Italian authorities are looking to see how they may save the summer season.
“We won’t spend the summer on the balcony and the beauty of Italy will not remain in quarantine,” Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte told Corriere della Sera newspaper.
Fine words from the Country’s head, but he is fully aware that the reality is completely different as Italy was struggling before the pandemic came along with crippling debt and political chaos.
