LeBron James feels for the high school class of 2020 that never received traditional graduation because of the lockdown. So he is now working on fixing that problem, at least in a sense.
The Lakers star is preparing “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020.” It is a star-packed one-hour event that will air on May 16th, at 8 p.m. EDT. The graduates will be able to catch it either on several TV channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox) or social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Complex Networks, PeopleTV).
The event will feature appearances, speeches, and performances from LeBron himself, Pharrell Williams, Malala Yousafzai, the Jonas Brothers, Bad Bunny, Yara Shahidi, Ben Platt, Lena Waithe — and more.
The Associated Press published a statement from LeBron where he says that he wanted to create a project that would “speak to kids in a different way.”
“I wanted to help create a show that looked and felt very different from traditional specials. (…) These kids worked so hard to graduate and what is happening to them is truly unfair.”
“I hope we can give them and their families something cool that makes their accomplishment feel special.”
“Graduate Together” is curated by high school students, educators, the American Federation of Teachers, The LeBron James Family Foundation, XQ Institute and The Entertainment Industry Foundation.
