The NBA has been very keen to restart the late season so that they rescue what there is left to rescue after the Covid-19 lockdown. They are now engaged in talks with the aim of resuming at Florida’s Disney World Resort in late July.
Disney’s ESPN World of Sports Complex can accommodate all the requirements for games, practice sessions and housing. Recently Mike Bass the NBA spokesperson explained that the league is in exploratory conversations with the National Basketball Players Association and the resort.
Since the season was paused on the 11th March 2020 fans have been bored stiff unable to watch their favourite teams play. Stuck at home with little to do other than watch re-runs of basketball games and other sports fans are equally keen to restart the season. Diehard supporters of the game will settle for any compromise to start to watch their favourite teams and players again.
With over 1.6M confirmed cases and 96,000 deaths in the US it is understandable that extreme caution to ensure the safety of all concerned is put at the forefront of any return. Bass also added “Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections are in place,”
The Eastern Conference is led by the Milwaukee Bucks and the Western Conference has the Los Angeles Lakers in the lead. The regular season is yet to be completed and that’s where things stand presently.
As things are slowly opening up with caution so too will basketball return. Sports are an integral part of American culture and it is important that resumption takes place as soon as it is safely possible to do so.
