A man allegedly attempted to rob a Walmart store in California on April, 18th. His confrontation with the police turned deadly.
The incident took place in the city of San Leandro around 3:30 p.m. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a report about a robbery taking place. They did not immediately find any signs of robbery, but encountered an agitated man swinging a baseball bat, reports KGO-TV.
The officers attempted to stop the man using tasers to no avail. One of them killed the man with a single gunshot at the Walmart entrance.
“We don’t know how close [the attacker] was to the officer”, said Lt. Ted Henderson of the San Leandro Police Department.
The man is yet to be officially identified. The Walmart store is currently closed, and both San Leandro Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney are investigating the incident.
